Milan Markoviæ
Milan St. Markoviæ's twenty-year creative
career has left an indelible mark on German fashion. His designs,
currently on display at the Hamburg Museum of Applied Arts,
bear testimony to his mastery of style and cut.
His classic range carries a fine touch
of extravagance and glamour and he perceives it as being the
culmination of centuries of artistic tradition. Milan St. Markovic's
designs reflect his view of woman as the perfection of God's
creation on Earth.
Milan often says that he owes the aesthetic
behind his work to his grandmother Kruna. He considers her sophistication
and tenderness as factors which are reflected in his creativity.
Milan is descended from an old Belgrade
family which always set great store by education. He has been
inspired by his passion for books, theatre and fine arts.
He was born in Belgrade, Serbia, but
moved with his parents to Germany at the tender age of two.
He grew up in Germany, where he took his degree and began his
career. He considers the disciplined habits he acquired during
this period as crucial to his evolution as a fashion designer.
Because of his youthful stubbornness
he turned down the opportunity of a post as a wedding dress
designer at Pierre Cardin. He had however by this time embarked
on his unique career in fashion and has no regrets.
Despite initially embarking on a degree
course in Law and Economics in Cologne and Bonn, Milan had a
radical change of heart and turned instead to studying applied
arts at the Armgardstraße Academy in Hamburg.
His professional career started before
his graduation.
